ARTIST BIO

About the Artist:

Stacey Mrmacovski is a local artist inspired by the forms and colours of the Australian landscapes that surround her, particularly in her surrounds of country Victoria near her home studio in outer North East Melbourne. Through her work she invites the observer to create a moment of stillness and to find a sense of place and re-discovery. With each stroke of paint with the palette knife, Stacey brings to life a raw energy and honesty, much like the landscapes themselves.

After painting her whole life, being awarded dux in visual arts and working in the art education industry, it was only after the birth of her first son that Stacey decided to showcase her artwork to the public in 2014 and has since gathered a following from collectors across Australia and internationally.

Stacey has participated in gallery group shows in Melbourne and Singapore, and recently has been invited to exhibit in group shows in LA and New York. She has worked closely with Interior Designers and Architects with custom commissions, including pieces for commercial and international collections and in March 2019 will be launching her first solo show.

Her original artworks hang in collections across Australia, Asia, Europe, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.

About the Process:

The process of painting for Stacey has always been cathartic and a way of preserving thoughts and emotions which cannot be expressed any other way.

"I am interested in stripping back and looking at what makes the essence of a space, landscape or seascape. I am interested in forms, colours, particularly in a very raw and suggestive sense and I find using oils and palette knives allows me to express this. I am interested in contrast, texture, the shift from day to night and all the magical beauty in between. When I paint, I like to keep it very suggestive, raw, very textured which allows me to be more expressive and to create what I feel is the soul of the piece without having to spell it out to the viewer it a literal context.  In doing so I think this allows for more interaction and gives the viewer the opportunity to create their own sense of place and meaning, which as an artist is very important to me.”
