ARTIST BIO

I've been drawing the world around me since I was a boy growing up in country New Zealand. I have a strong interest in natural landscape, and in landscape influenced by human activity. Although my work is strongly representational, I sometimes look to the French impressionists to try and keep my work fresh.

A source of inspiration to me is the fall of light on what I'm painting. I like to imagine how something looked in its original state to help me enhance the painting.

My professional art background is as an architectural illustrator, where my interest in detail developed. I started with pen and ink illustrations, then moved through to watercolour and gouache, and have also touched on computer illustration. My working interests as an artist now cover architectural illustration, childrens book illustration, and fine art.
